Most people have the idea that brake services are a simple matter of replacing their brake pads when the time comes for such a routine maintenance procedure, and they’re right to think that. However, replacing brake pads also requires draining and replacing the brake fluid, commonly called a brake fluid exchange, which is a good thing because it allows the technician conducting the repair to further inspect for contaminants indicative of a deeper problem.
The most common reason for brake maintenance is that the brake pads have worn down and need to be replaced. At such a point in time, other components in the braking system are likely fine, but it’s a great time to inspect them for any issues which might become problematic while there is access to view and test how the brakes are working. It can’t be emphasized enough how once a problem starts, it’s only going to get worse and become more expensive to repair. It’s always better to catch a problem sooner than later. Even for someone who might be wealthy enough that repair prices aren’t a concern, a malfunctioning car is a safety issue for you, your family, and everybody else’s family who happens to drive the same roads.
As ridiculous as it sounds, imagine a zombie apocalypse in which you don’t care about brake maintenance or performance as long as the car gets you from point A to point B. Long past the screeching noise of the wire intended to let you know the brake pads need replacement, the pads are going to eventually dissolve and be gone. Then it’s metal on metal, which won’t efficiently stop the car, but that in and of itself doesn’t matter when safety in traffic isn’t a concern. Then the metal will break and the car will simply have no means of stopping other than being angled uphill, after which there is no way of stopping it from rolling back down the hill backward until the momentum stops. Incorporate the more realistic aspects of other traffic and school buses on the road and the idea of failed brakes becomes far scarier.
For routine vehicle maintenance including regular brake service, it’s best to go to an authorized dealer and service center such as Brooklyn Mitsubishi in New York City to assure qualified technicians are taking the best care your car can receive, as it deserves.
